theFund's Involvement with Luminaria
History
Luminaria’s first year, 2008, theFund staffed just a couple of information booths with a handful of adventurous volunteer Board members. The second year, 2009, we added a t-shirt booth to raise money for the artists. The third year, 2010, we added Beer concessions, also to raise money for the arts, along with continuing to staff and manage Information tables, and Retail tents. 2011, theFund Volunteer Corps, then added planning and implementing the food concessions, to the management of the other concessions. Each year we have recruited volunteers to meet the new demands of the growing event.
Who Benefits?
Thanks to the city of San Antonio, a multitude of sponsors, and volunteers, entrance into Luminaria is free. Yet, Luminaria has evolved into somewhat of a fundraiser, since all of the net proceeds raised selling t-shirts go to support Luminaria and the artists. Additionally, a portion of the net proceeds from beverage sales go to Luminaria and a poriton to theFund. A portion of the proceeds of the net food sales go to theFund. All of this is possible because of the commitment of theFund Volunteer Corps. For information about participating in Food4Luminaria, please email thefund.office@sbcglobal.net.

Luminaria is San Antonio’s annual evening-long celebration of the city’s artists, musicians, performers and cultural organizations. Initiated by Mayor Phil Hardberger in 2008 and overseen by San Antonio’s creative leaders, the event provides visitors and residents with a unique opportunity to revel in the city’s wealth of traditional and innovative cultural expression presented on stages, galleries, and in locations throughout Hemisphere Park in downtown San Antonio.

Luminaria was the first celebration in Texas to present simultaneous and innovative programming throughout the city with over 100,000 people enjoying the festivities in a presentation of the arts in San Antonio. In 2010, Luminaria moved to incor-porate Hemisfair Park in its performance area. Through visual, multi-media, theatre, dance, music and other art forms, audiences engaged throughout the park in a FREE world-class celebration of the arts.
Utilizing the entire Hemisfair Park in an innovative way, Luminaria 2011 involved participants in an even more ambitious undertaking. Several hundred artists and performers representing every major discipline in the arts, from dance, theatre, poetry, and music, to painting, sculpture, film and multi-arts project participated at Luminaria 2011 Saturday, March 12.
Luminaria2011 presented a combination of new and classical works selected from hundreds of submissions and commissions from artists representing all the artistic disciplines.
