Campaign Update
Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Texas held its annual Fund employee campaign in June. $23,698.00 was raised including Toyota’s $10,000 grant used to match the employee contributions. The campaign was kicked off by Ruby Perez, mother of Dennis Perez, UIW student, who spoke about her son’s experiences in the arts to the Toyota Leadership. The kickoff was highlighted by performances by YOSA member, Olivia Morales, violinist, along with members of the San Pedro Playhouse Broadway Headliners. On two different days, Toyota Team members were treated to a performance from the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Mariachi Student group under the direction of Gino Rivera, as the Toyota team ended their work day.
Time and access-
What we ask of local employers is time and access to employees, so they can hear our message. The Bexar County Employee giving campaign is a great example of this. So far we are running 4% over last year’s campaign total. The Infrastructure Department raised the most with $5,399, an 82% increase over 08. Average gifts were between $25 to $81. The juvenile probation department had a whopping 451% increase in giving.
Art Soup, our annual restaurant event to sell soup with a portion of the sales benefiting theFund, raised close to $2000. Paloma Blanca Mexican Cuisine took top honors with over $400 in soup sales during the two week event. BlueStar Brewhouse, Cha Cha’s on Bandera, Fralo’s Art of Pizza, and Shilo’s Deli were the other participants. We are excited that Brian Mason and Joanne Nichols co-chairing this event next year.
The Inside Story
theFund welcomes its newest Directors, Suzanne Scott, General Manager San Antonio River Authority; Dr. Clinton Wright, Associate Medical Director, RPS, Inc. ; Brian Mason, financial representative, Northwestern Mutual; Joanna Nichols, Epidemiologist with the Texas Department of Health Services; and Wandita Turner, Executive with TETCO.
Most folks are not aware that theFund has only two full time staff members. So volunteers are vital to the success of our operation, especially when we are making presentations in the workplace. This year we thank Steven Bull, Yvonne Escamilla, and Doug Cross, who made presentation on behalf of theFund.
For the last several months, we have had the benefits of two fantastic interns who have been volunteering at theFund office. Jeannie West and Travis Trevino have both been a huge help to Kathy LeMaster, our office manager. They have been helping primarily with data entry. Jeannie assisted with the campaign presentations at Toyota.
