Based on the classic Grimm Brothers fairy tale, this hilarious musical spoof takes place long ago in the mountains of Central Mexico. The Duke of Valeciana lives in his palace high on the hill overlooking Guanajuato, a city whose mines produce most of the world's silver. Snow White, his young daughter, is the happiest child in the world. One day the Duke brings home a beautiful but vain bride who carries with her an enchanted mirror. The years pass and Snow White grows up to be a beautiful young girl. Her stepmother, the Duchess, who has been asking the same question every day since she arrived in Guanajuato, asks again, "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in the land is the fairest of all?" When the mirror tells the Duchess the truth, she becomes obsessed with getting rid of her stepdaughter. Snow White must flee the city for the high mountains, where she befriends seven amigos who work the mines. They take her in and try to protect her, and the rest is a story that can only come to life onstage at The Magik Theatre.

The Guadalupe Dance Academy offers an array of classes in Mexican Folkloric and Flamenco for beginners and experienced dancers of all ages. Get up and get active while learning about Mexican and Spanish art and culture. Beginning students develop coordination, balance and weight shifting while learning rhythm, and footwork combinations. Magna Spe Repleti! will bring together artists and art enthusiasts from our community in an evening overflowing with Hope for the Future for children. Proceeds from the art show benefit the
Hope for the Future tuition assistance program in its mission is to give every child an opportunity to receive an academically rigorous and value-centered Catholic school education.

Entry deadline: Monday, October 18, 2010
Notification of entry status by e-mail within one week of submission or by Friday, October 22, 2010
Delivery of art work (to Plaza Lecea): Wednesday, November 8, 2010 by 5 pm
Art Show and Sale: Thursday, November 9, 2010, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Pick up of art work: November 10, 2010, by 5 pm

Eligibility

Pieces must be original works by the artist.
Art works must be ready to display.
Submissions from any art form accepted, both 2-D and 3-D.
Art works can not exceed 48” x 48” or weigh more than 50 pounds.

Welcome to the theFund 2010 Campaign newsletter.

Luminaria – theFund organized volunteer corps was fully engaged in this years event. In addition to selling t-shirts, hats, glow necklaces and staffing the information booths, fifty plus volunteers helped with beer sales. 100% of the net proceeds of the merchandise sales and 50% of the net proceeds of the beer sales went back to support Luminaria. theFund’s remaining portion will help make up the next allocation to theFund’s affiliates.

The St. Mary’s campaign kicked off on March 3 with an open house

featuring student performing groups, campus and community leaders including Jack Fishman, President of the San Antonio Symphony, a Fund affiliate. The campaign runs through the month of March. Abbie Cotrell, is the honorary chair and Tim Bessler, St. Mary’s new Dean of Students, is the campaign chair, reported over $5,706 raised, a 30% increase over 2009.

University of the Incarnate Word’s campaign kicked off February 24 under the leadership of Board Member, Dr. Cheryl Anderson. Dr. Anderson set a new campus fund raising record again this year raising $9,109, a 20% increase over 2009.

KLRN has completed revising our 2010 campaign video. KLRN donates this service for which we are very appreciative.

theFund banners are now hung all over town during the campaign. Thank you to our loyal and new sponsors. Trotter and Morton is our newest banner sponsor. They are a commercial HVAC service contractor. Phyllis Browning Company and AAA Auger also sponsored again this year.

The Bexar County Campaign will be led again by District Attorney Susan Reed. The leadership meeting and coordinator events were hosted at our affiliate, San Antonio Museum of Art, April 28^th and May 6 at their new Café des Artiste, on the river. Thank you, Olivia Morales, violinist from YOSA, for your performance at the leadership meeting. The campaign runs throughout the month of May and June.

The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council staff, completed their fourth campaign for theFund.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Texas is looking at June 11 to launch this year’s campaign.

The campaign will run the month of June ending on the 24th.

This year's Make a Difference Program was held at Magik Theatre, a Fund affiliate, on April 11^th. Each year a group of freshman students from ISA (International School of Americas), organizes a fun art fundraising event to support the arts, because they know how important the arts are to a successful education. The theme this year was “Sm{Art}”; it takes art to be smart. The program event featured music bands and an art auction of student art and included well-known artists. The students also made and sold SmArt bead bracelets and sold them at the event and at Fiesta Arts Fair. Over $2,000 was raised for theFund.

Speaking of Fiesta, theFund was again hosted by its affiliate the Southwest School of Art and Craft during its very successful Fiesta Arts Fair on April 17 and 18. Members of theFund Board of Directors, and volunteers worked theFund booth rain and shine spreading the word about theFund and its mission in San Antonio.

theFund thanks the following restaurants and their owners for their participation in this years ART Soup fund raiser: Paloma Blanca Mexican Causine, Bluestar Brewing Co., both ChaCha’s, Wine 101, Schilos Delicatessen, Grey Moss Inn, Fralo’s Art of Pizza, and Here’s to Yum Bistro.

theFund made a second allocation to its affiliates on April 30 totaling $39,000. That brings the funds allocated for 2010 to $ 93,227.00. The total dollars allocated to theFund’s affiliates to date is $579,306.
