The Fire and Police Retiree Health and Wellness Fund proudly announces our new wellness center by Health by Design! On Tuesday, February 28th, the Schertz Wellness Center officially opened. We were incredibly proud to unveil the Treviño Multi-Purpose Room, named after Henry Treviño, a retired San Antonio firefighter. He is a current retiree representative on The Fund board of trustees and a long-time advocate for access to health and wellness centers forall retired San Antonio police and firefighters.
Henry was joined by James Bounds, Executive Director ofthe Fire and Police Retiree Health and Wellness Fund, and David Blank, CEO of Health by Design. His sons were also present and praised his strong work ethic, determination and dedication to The Fund community.
After the dedication, guests, including retirees and their families, were treated to snacks & refreshments, goodie bags and tours of the new facility.
The Schertz Wellness Center** is now accepting patients. Services are provided to all of The Fund’s members and their dependents. Please schedule an appointment at (210) 866-3720. The wellness center address is 5009 Schertz Parkway, Bldg #1, Schertz, TX 78154. ** Retirees, when you use navigation to guide you to the Schertz Wellness Center (on your desktop or mobile phone), please use SCHERTZ in the city & address fields. We want to ensure you find your way to the Schertz location!
Over the few past decades, it has become clear that physical health and mental health are intrinsically linked. Adults with untreated mental health concerns, including depression and anxiety, are at greater risk for developing severe conditions, including heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.
Part of the reason The Fund has partnered with Health by Design is because of their dedication to whole-person care that offers both physical and mental health services to members of The Fund. Currently, The Fund’s Health by Design wellness centers offer:
- Depression and anxiety screenings
- Individual counseling services for mental health issues, including grief and trauma
- Diagnoses and recommendations in partnership with consulting psychiatrists
- Personalized goal planning
Caring for yourself is essential. The good news... we can help!
Wine Painting Class
The Fair Oaks Wellness Center held its first wine-glass painting class in March. Retirees created unique artwork while enjoying snacks and sharing laughs and stories.
As a part of its whole-person care approach, Health by Design provides creative outlets and community bonding experiences to strengthen social ties. They have always believed that “good community health equals healthy people.”
More classes like wine-glass painting will occur at Fair Oaks and other wellness centers in the coming months. For information on these classes, click the button below.
